Emotional intelligence – Second that emotion

Emotional intelligence (EQ) is emerging as one of the most effective business skills of this century.

EQ is an important set of life skills, crucial in both your professional and personal life. Countless studies conclude that what distinguishes a star performer from an average performer is superior EQ.

EQ is simply the ability to understand, express and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, think clearly, communicate effectively and constructively to others, empathise with them, overcome challenges and conflict, and to solve problems under pressure. EQ helps you to develop, maintain and build strong relationships (inside and outside of work) and to achieve your goals (personally and professionally).

According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2023 (and putting technological skills to the side):

  • Analytical thinking;
  • Creative thinking;
  • Resilience, flexibility & agility;
  • Curiosity and lifelong learning;
  • Motivation & self-awareness; and
  • Empathy & active listening

are listed as some of the top 10 reskilling strategic priorities for many businesses for 2023-2027. Effectively all of these skills fall under the EQ umbrella.

Understanding its vital importance, earlier this year I was interviewed by ICAS and asked to contribute towards an article about EQ. You can read that full article in the CA Magazine here, at page 48.

The good news is, EQ is not fixed – through training and practice, you can develop and increase your EQ. I offer either a full day training or 90 minute workshop in EQ, which you’ll find under ‘Work with me’. If you need more hands-on support, I’m also able to offer one-to-one coaching sessions.

The full day course aims to provide you with simple and practical models and tools to improve your EQ, managing your own and other people’s emotions, helping to bring your life into balance. By learning how to connect with your feelings, you can turn intention into action, and make informed decisions about what’s most important to you.

I look forward to seeing you there.
